I’ve Got the Power … Not

A few months ago, I was unlucky enough to trip on the powercord to my iBook. The plug got half-way pulled out and looked a little mangled, but it still seemed to work fine. Until about a week ago, when it started going on and off, making my laptop switch from plugged in to battery mode every couple of seconds. And only with very careful manipulation, could I get it to go into charge-mode.

So, after unsuccessfully trying to fiddle the plug back into its original shape, I went out and bought a new power supply. I plugged it in and everything seemed to be working. Until today. After moving my computer from the office to the bedroom and back, it suddenly went back to switching modes and not charging. This points to something being off inside the powerplug on the computer itself. Which sucks beyond description.

Hmm. The mode-switching thing happens to me, too, when I’m using my cheapo generic power supply and the battery is less than 70% charged or so - but it does seem to charge anyway, maybe just a little slower.

Unfortunately, I was not that lucky. Turns out that my DC-port was fubar.
