Challenging Myself All Year Long

So, since I decided that 2009 would be the year I focus on more artistic endeavors, more documentation and less stock, I’ve been having a lot of fun. Around new years, I made a resolution that each month will have its own little challenge, on top of whatever projects and challenges I already have going on. To give myself a soft start, the January challenge sounds like so: Shoot at least 10 photos every day.
It doesn’t sound like much of a challenge, but I had gotten into the habit of only using my DSLR when it was for “commercial purposes”, leaving all the snapshooting to my point and shoot. I love my Leica D-Lux, but it’s just not the same. Also, I figure that an easy challenge for the first month of the year, will help me ease into the next ones, and that this one in particular could help me get back into the habit of shooting everywhere and every day.
I also took it upon myself to complete the 365 challenge; shooting and sharing a self portrait every day for a year. Many of my friends and acquaintances have already done it (Danny Ngan has been a huge inspiration for me on this), and I’ve been wanting to forever. But I was afraid of not completing, so I ended up not even trying. Until now, that is. The photo accompanying this post, is the first in my series. You can check out what I have so far over on Flickr, which also hosts the 365 group.
I am still looking for challenges to fill the rest of the year, and if you have any suggestions feel free to share them.

Hey Ras, I love the idea of monthly challenges. I’m going to do that. It’s enough time to achieve a chunky goal, but not too long that you’ll lose focus. Mine, for January, is to clear my plate with my design business. That is, get everything up to date so I can focus on my other ’stuff’ (stock, blogging, etc) without the pressure of knowing clients are waiting on me! If I can achieve that in January I’ll be a very happy man.
Now I’m going to go and write out February through December. I’m inspired.
