Portfolio Consultation
Why do a portfolio consultation?
Whether you’re thinking about shooting microstock, or you’ve been at it for a while, chances are that you have questions and doubt about how best to apply your skills and time, in order to build a solid portfolio. With a consultation you can get some concrete ideas for portfolio development, from niche exploration to technical solutions. And it will be tailored to your needs and experience level, one-on-one coaching as opposed to a standard class or lecture.
Michael from Switzerland says:
Coming from a different field of expertise, this has been invaluable to me and will help me to focus on my style, while improving my technical skills. I would recommend a portfolio consultation to anybody who feels the need or desire to get an outside look, and guidance on personal development as an artist. I am looking forward to discussing my progress with him in the future.
Why do it with me?
Beyond my own photography, I have years of experience inspecting other people’s photos at istockphoto.com, literally making the call on thousands of images every month. Through my work there, I have studied images shot with every kind of setup imaginable, by professional photographers as well as people who have never taken their point-and-shoot off of auto. I have been in microstock since 2000, when the concept was still in its infancy, and more importantly, I enjoy sharing what I have learned.
Sarah from Ireland says:
Rasmus provided me with comprehensive feedback. The points he made about my portfolio and my approach to photography were very informative and useful. The key point I took from our session was that I need to leave my comfort zone in order to advance my portfolio. This is something that I knew deep down but hearing it from Rasmus made me take it more seriously.
How to prepare for a session?
Time is preciously short during a consultation, so to get the most for your money, I encourage you to make a list of subjects, you’d like to cover. Especially areas, you’d like to improve on. A good idea is to prepare a number of questions ahead of time. I’ll also ask you to send me three full resolution photos, you feel represent your style and a link to your microstock portfolio.
Dimitar from Macedonia says:
Thank You Rasmus, for being persistant with your questions. It made me face the challenges today and with focused mind for tomorrow. If you are having second thoughts about a consultation with Rasmus, please note that he will ask the tough questions which will lead to your goal.
Following up
When the consultation is over, hopefully you’ll have a slew of new ideas to try out, that will help your work get better and noticed more. A great way to stay on track is to follow up on these ideas later on, to weigh and adjust, as well as set new goals.
