Secret of The Black Tomb

After winning the battle of Espoir, the heroes earned their freedom from the local noble and were free to once again concentrate on learning more about The Divine Order. They were sought out by Ambassador Morellius from Arathor, himself about to leave the frontier land of Corennia for home. He also brought them news from the Civilized Lands. The kingdom of Arathor had all but fallen after full war broke out between The Wizard Council and The Divine Order. With the king dead and no apparent heir to the throne, Queen Amaphina was fighting to keep the kingdom together under the strain of this war. Royal Conscripts

With the evil Brother Harcus’ journal in hand and no witnesses left alive, the heroes left the temple of The Divine Order in Arathor City. Arcanus Major, the arch-wizard who sent them on this mission, studied the journal and subsequently arranged an audience with her Majesty Queen Amaphina II of Arathor.

The queen already knew about The Divine Order and its war against wizards, and she seemed to have sided Arathor firmly with the Wizard Council. Her husband, King Goemer, still suffering from a mysterious illness and not showing any sign of improvement, Amaphina had begun her own investigation into the situation. With her own resources tied up, the queen decided to make the party her ambassadors.

Researching the Enemy

After a forced march to reach the city as fast as possible, the heroes finally arrived in Arathor. Horacius, the wizard who had persuaded them to accompany him there, took them to see his own master, special advisor to King Goemer and leader of the Wizard Council, Arcanus Major.

The hope was that Arcanus Major would be able to shed some light on The Divine Order and what had happened in Mirrorwood, but upon their arrival it quickly became clear that the great wizard’s powers were not as strong as they used to be.
