Inspired by recent reports, that new games sell an average of 1000 units on Steam in their first year on the platform, I wanted to make a tool that helps set expectations and goals for new releases.
This page is for indie game developers doing research on pricing their games and general profitability. This page is not aimed at free-to-play games relying on ad revenue, nor games with large budgets (over $500k). Finally, I am not responsible if you base your business on these numbers, and still fail.
That said, check your expectations and price point using the form below. The calculation assumes you’re paying 30% of your revenue to the distributor, based on Valve’s fee for distributing games on Steam.
Enter your estimates below and click the button.
If this tool was helpful to you, please share it so others can benefit from it as well.
